WordPress Export and Import Tools

The import/export tools in WordPress are useful for moving sites created with Thulo Sites to an independent WordPress installation. To begin importing or exporting sites, log into your WordPress Dashboard using either of the following URLs:

http://example.com/wp-admin
http://example.com/wp-login.php

(Replaceย example.comย with your actual domain name.)

Export Tool

The export tool will allow you to save your posts, pages, comments, custom fields, categories, and tags to your computer in an XML file format. You can then import the files to another WordPress installation. Just follow the steps below!

  1. From the left-hand navigation menu in WordPress, clickย Toolsย >ย Export.
  2. Select an option for what you'd like to export:
    • All content
    • Posts
    • Pages
    • Campaigns
    • Media
  3. After making the appropriate selection, clickย ย Download Export File.
  4. A pop-up box will prompt you to download the backup file. Selectย Save Fileย and clickย OK.
  5. Save the file where you can easily find it later.

Import Tool

After downloading your content to an export file, you can upload it to the WordPress site of your choice using the steps below.

  1. From the left navigation menu, clickย Toolsย >ย Import.
  2. Choose the systemย you are importing from. (In this example, we will choose WordPress, although there are several other systems from which you can import.)
  3. If it has not yet been installed, the options underneath WordPress will be Install Now and Details. Clickย Install Now. Once the installation is complete, the first option will change toย Run Importer.
    • Clickย Run Importer.
  4. Choose the file from your computer (which was downloaded during the export step above).
  5. Clickย Upload file and import.
  6. Create a new author or assign it to an existing user, then clickย Submit.
All done! Visit your blog and refresh the page to see your imported content.
